Joanna Pearson plays the piano and became an Associate of the London College of Music at the age of 16. she joined the BBC in 1977, beginning her career at the World Service and then moving to Radio Three where, during the course of her work she met young musicians who are themselves now giving masterclasses. Whilst there, she sang in the BBC Symphony Chorus and BBC Club Choir. She moved to BBC Television in the 1980's and worked within a number of genres - starting with the children's programme "Blue Peter" and then on through documentary programmes to drama.

In 1985 she moved to Bristol where she continued her BBC career working on local documentaries before joining the Natural History Unit. Later she moved into administration, running two independent production companies and later working as company and production manager at Mischa Scorer's company Scorer Associates.
